FEEL LIKE CHURCH IS MISSING SOMETHING?
WE DO TOO.
church is not somewhere you go, it's a community of people who love God and love others. when you are around the church, you should feel free to be yourself and feel no judgement. church should lift you up and give you hope. it was never meant to be about performers and good public speakers- it should be about authenticity, tribe, honor, and experiencing the impossible. let's get back to doing things God's way and see what happens.
I want to...
know what ascension is
ascension means "to rise; to go towards a higher place." you may have heard the word ascension used referring to Jesus lifting up to heaven after He was resurrected.
we are a young church that God called us to plant in 2014 in the Prosperity/Little Mountain area. the church name came from God through a dream 3 years before it began! we have a small indoor area that we gather in but oftentimes we meet outside when the weather is nice and even meet at local homes and public places occasionally. we believe in the biblical design of the church, found in the new testament which clearly describes the local church being overseen by a plurality of elders; therefore, we have no senior or lead pastor - Jesus is our chief shepherd. we are an independent, non-denominational Christian church that blends the 1st century church with the technology of the 21st century. ministry leaders meet regularly and we have an oversight and accountability board (outside of the church) to assist with major decisions.
our mission is "to honor God with our lives and impact the world with His love"
our vision is "making God visible"
our 5 core values are:
1. We believe that Jesus must be at the center of all we do. Meaning: If He’s not in it, we don’t want it!
2. We believe in honoring one another to affirm value. Meaning: Everyone has something to contribute!
3. We believe that a lifestyle of worship reveals God’s kingdom. Meaning: Prioritizing His presence makes the impossible attainable!
4. We believe that everything necessitates excellence. Meaning: Offering God our very best is important!
5. We believe in transforming our communities through selfless service. Meaning: As others see God in action, His kingdom will advance!
know about ascension's beliefs
We believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, known as the Bible, composed of sixty-six books and divided into two major parts, Old and New Testaments. We believe the Bible is the infallible Word of God, the full and complete revelation of the plan and history of redemption.
God the Trinity
We believe there is but one living and true God everlasting, of infinite power, wisdom and goodness; Maker and Preserver of all things, both visible and invisible. And in the unity of this Godhead there are three Persons of one substance of eternal being, and equal in holiness, justice, wisdom, power, and dignity; the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit.
God is great: He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust, and above all, Holy. It is in Him that we live, move and exist. God is good. He is our Father. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises.
We believe that the Son, who is the Word of the Father, the very and eternal God, of one substance with the Father, took man's nature in the womb of the virgin Mary; so that two whole and perfect natures, that is to say, the Godhead and the manhood were joined together in one Person, never to be divided, whereof is one Christ, very God and perfect man, who actually suffered, was crucified, dead, and buried, to reconcile the Father to us, and to make atonement, not only for our actual guilt, but also for original sin. We believe that Jesus the Christ did truly rise again from the dead, and took again His body, with all things appertaining to the perfections of man's nature, and ascended into heaven and there sits until He shall return to judge all men at the last day.
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit, proceeding from the Father and the Son, is of one substance, majesty and glory with the Father and the Son, very and eternal God. The Holy Spirit’s presence assures us of our relationship with Christ. He guides believers into all truth and exalts Christ. He convicts people of their sin, God’s righteousness, and the coming judgment. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, empowers us for ministry, and makes us more like Christ.
We believe that man was created to exist forever and that eternal life with God in heaven is a portion of the reward of the finally righteous. Everlasting banishment from the presence of the Lord and unending torture in hell are the wages of the persistently wicked (Matthew 25:46; Psalm 9:17; Revelation 21:7-8).
We believe that Jesus Christ shed His blood for the remission of sins that are past, for the regeneration of sinners, and for salvation from sin and from sinning (Romans 3:25; 1 John 3:5-10; Ephesians 2:1-10). We believe, teach, and firmly maintain the scriptural doctrine of justification by faith alone (Romans 5:1). We believe that Jesus Christ shed His blood for the complete cleansing of the justified believer from all indwelling sin and from its pollution, subsequent to regeneration (1 John 1:7-9). We believe in sanctification. While sanctification is initiated in regeneration and consummated in glorification, we believe that it includes a definite, instantaneous work of grace achieved by faith subsequent to regeneration (Acts 26:18; 1 John 1:9). Sanctification delivers from the power and dominion of sin. It is followed by life-long growth in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:16; 2 Peter 3:18). In other words, Salvation is a free gift from God and it cannot be earned through our own efforts.
God's revealed pattern in Scripture is that the local church is God’s instrument for impacting our culture. The Bible teaches that the local church be led and fed by a plurality of biblically qualified elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9). The Holy Spirit raises these men up from within the local church. The church body formally affirms them. They equip the saints to do the work of ministry. Each local church is independent and self-governing. There is no higher authority in the local church than the elders. (Acts 14:23; 20:28; Ephesians 4:11-1; 1 Timothy 5:17-18; 1 Peter 5:1-4) God designed His church to be a spiritual "family of families" where members know one another intimately. The elders (shepherds or pastors) strive to understand the members of local church effectively. The various members or parts of the body (the local church) function interactively (1 Timothy 3:15, 1 Corinthians 12: 12-26). We reject one of the current trends to value numbers and size more than intimacy and vitality. We desire a family-like congregation.
God intends his followers to carry out evangelism and discipleship first and foremost in the home through multiple generations, "so that you and your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands". It is not the church’s responsibility to raise children, rather, we believe that the church should encourage and equip parents to raise their own children toward spiritual maturity (Deuteronomy 6:7, Ephesians 6:1-4, Proverbs 22:6). Our focus as a church is overwhelmingly on encouraging healthy Christian homes. Of course there will be exceptions when the church will need to be sensitive to non- traditional homes with only one parent or parents that don’t support Christian values. Members of this church should be eager and willing to assist and encourage children whose parent or parents are not active or supportive. We also want to be sensitive to the needs and potential of young adults, mature singles, mid-life couples, seniors, widows/widowers and shut-ins. They are an important and necessary part of this church.
